Tossa de Mar is a small town in the east of Spain, 90 km north of Barcelona. It is part of the autonomous community of Catalonia and is considered one of the most beautiful on the Costa Brava. Immersed in greenery, celebrated by poets and a source of inspiration for artists, this resort has long been known as a holiday destination for wealthy Europeans. Today it has become more democratic, but no less picturesque, and is perfect for families.

The development of Tossa de Mar as a resort began in the 50s of the 20th century, when the film "Pandora and the Flying Dutchman" was filmed in the city. The famous actress Ava Gardner is very fond of the local beaches, thanks to which the once simple fishing town has turned into a luxury resort. In gratitude to the legendary actress, residents erected a bronze monument to her.
Located in the cozy bay of Tossa de Mar, it is adjacent to the rocky coast, where the cliffs form beautiful deep grottoes, narrow straits and tiny secluded quiet bays. It is a favorite haven for romantics and dreamers, artists and explorers of the underwater world.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, Tossa de Mar was the largest cork manufacturer in Spain. These corks were used to cork expensive wines.
The resort is known for its long sandy beaches, which are popular with tourists and residents of the surrounding towns.
How to get there
You can get to Tossa de Mar both through Girona and through Barcelona, where there are international airports. Most often, Barcelona is chosen to travel to the coast (flight from Moscow is about 4.5 hours). From there you can take a taxi to Tossa de Mar (about 90-100 EUR ), take a bus ( 10-12 EUR, travel time about 90 minutes) or take a train ( 4-7 EUR ).

Beaches
There are three large beaches in Tossa de Mar. Mar Grande Beach is located right at the foot of the cliff on which Villa Vella Castle is erected. Mar Menuda beach is nestled on the other side of the bay. El Kolodar beach is just behind the fortress. All three beaches are sandy. During the holiday season, many tourists and locals gather on them to relax along the Mediterranean coast, so lovers of seclusion can hire a boat and go to the quiet coves of the rugged coastline.
In addition, glass-bottomed boats ply along the shores of Tossa de Mar, showcasing fantastic underwater beauties, while outdoor enthusiasts go for diving and snorkelling.
