The medieval Chepstow Castle is located in Monmouthshire on the banks of the River Wye in south Wales. It stands on a steep ridge and is the oldest surviving stone forts in Britain. The castle was built at the direction of Lord William Fitzosbern, who soon received the title of Earl of Hereford. Chepstow became the southernmost in the chain of castles built along the Anglo-Welsh border.
