Located in northern South Africa, 3.5 hours from Johannesburg International Airport, Madikwe Nature Reserve is one of the largest in the country. Founded in the early 1990s, it is renowned primarily for its large elephant population. Other representatives of the African fauna also live here - lions, rhinos, leopards, buffaloes, wild dogs, numerous species of birds and reptiles. For guests of the reserve, classic jeep safaris are held twice a day.

Geography
The Madikwe Game Reserve is located in the northern part of South Africa, on the border with Botswana, 3.5 hours drive or 45 minutes flight from Johannesburg International Airport. It is the fourth largest nature reserve in the Republic of South Africa, with an area of 75,000 hectares. The territory of Madikwe is covered with savannas and bushes. The Groot Mariko River flows through the reserve.

Story
The reserve was established in the early 90s of the last century, when, as a result of Operation Phoenix, about 10,000 animals of 27 species were resettled here from different regions of South Africa.

Sights
Fauna - Madikwe Game Reserve is known primarily for its large population of elephants (55 heads). There are also 80 buffaloes, lions, leopards, rhinos, zebras, and various types of antelopes. In the reserve, you can also see wild dogs - one of the endangered animal species in Africa. In addition, Madikwe is home to over 360 species of birds and 65 species of reptiles. For guests of the reserve, jeep safaris are held twice a day, accompanied by experienced rangers.
