The Nijo Castle grounds are made up of (among other things) three striking gardens that are considered some of the most beautiful in Japan. They are really impressive during cherry blossom season, so grab your camera and take pictures of your surroundings; you can show off your beauty later.

The castle displays Japanese-style artifacts, mainly in the main hall. One of the castle's defenses is the floor, which was purposely built to creak so that the guards could hear the enemies who rushed inside.

The grounds are quite large, so if you plan on exploring thoroughly, wear comfortable walking shoes. Note: you need to take them off before going inside. You can get here by trains to Nijo-Hasidate Station, San-In Line and Tozai Line.
