Located in the historical region (Transylvania) Romania, the Rupea Citadel was built in the 14th century on a basalt elevation. Over the centuries, forts and fortresses were built here, which sooner or later became ruins. By the 1990s, the place was a real graveyard of stones.

As a result of the restoration project, the Rupea Citadel came back to life and reopened to visitors in 2013. Restorers have erected towers, restored courtyards, and the massive walls of the citadel once again spiral down the green hill.
