The Chester Zoo is located in Upton by Chester, a suburb of Chester. It is one of the largest zoos in the UK, covering an area of 160 hectares and home to over 7,000 animals of 400 species. Many species are included in the Red Book.

The jaguar enclosure is divided into four parts. Two represent the rain forest and arid savannah, while the other two have rivers and ponds for jaguars to swim to their heart's content. The zoo is home to four spotted jaguars and one black jaguar.
The most expensive project in the history of the zoo is keeping orangutans from Borneo and Sumatra. The efforts were not in vain, and on January 29, 2008, the zoo celebrated the birth of a baby Sumatran orangutan. In addition to orangutans, great apes in the zoo are represented by the largest chimpanzee colony in Europe.
