Near the town of Füssen in southwestern Bavaria , not far from the Austrian border, there is the majestic Neuschwanstein Castle. Almost every one of us, looking through beautiful cliparts on the Internet, has probably come across photos with this castle more than once. Indeed, the castle in reality is not inferior to its graceful graphic images. As if hovering over inaccessible mountains, Neuschwanstein Castle simply enchants from the first second of its acquaintance. Renovated in 2009, the castle now looks even more majestic and graceful.

A bit of history

Neuschwanstein Castle was not built as a defensive structure. It was also not intended for royal festivities. Neuschwanstein is the result of the romantic fantasy of Monarch Ludwig II. It was he who, in 1869, commissioned to lower the cliff plateau by 8 meters in order to create a miracle of architecture - the knightly castle of Neuschwanstein made in the medieval style.

For the construction of Neuschwanstein Castle, a record amount of 6 million gold marks was spent at that time. Immediately after the death of Ludwig II, the castle was opened for visits in order to somehow recoup the construction.

As the Germans like to joke, in order for Neuschwanstein Castle to pay off, it is necessary to make sure that every inhabitant of the planet visits it at least once.

How to get there

Getting to the castle is not that difficult. The most popular route starts 130 km from the castle - from the Munich railway station . By purchasing a Bayern Ticket here for 25 EUR , you get an entrance ticket for all types of public transport in the region. Please note that it is only valid from 9 am on weekdays, so the trip must be organized on a weekend, when the Bayern Ticket is valid from the night. You can, of course, just buy a ticket to Füssen from the machine for 22 EUR , but do not forget that you also have a way back, so buying a multi-functional ticket will be the best decision.

There are almost no trains running directly to Füssen , so you have to change trains in the town of Buchloe. Arriving in Füssen, a small old Bavarian town, the surroundings of which are simply strewn with castles, you can find the appropriate bus to the castle (here, again, the Bayern Ticket will come in handy for us).

Neuschwanstein area

There is also something to see near Neuschwanstein Castle. In addition to the already mentioned Hohenschwangau Castle, walks along the steep rocky paths of the Allgäu Valley will be of particular interest. Surely every tourist will want to climb the bridge, from which everyone usually loves to take pictures of Neuschwanstein, and also go to the Alpsee and Schwansee lakes.

The waters of the first of them are considered the cleanest in all of Germany. The panorama of the area is complemented by the village valley, the correct geometry of the fields and the Forggensee lake, which completes the landscape.
