The Amorgos Island - The easternmost of the Cyclades Islands and is another of Greece's little-known islands. It has a mountainous and arid landscape, although fertile. Purely Cycladic atmosphere, with beautiful beaches and quiet life in its picturesque villages. It does not offer the comforts of large luxury hotels, since its hotels are minimal, but perhaps that is the charm of islands of this type. Famous because it was one of the places where the famous white statuettes of cycladic sculpture were found.

The highlight of Amorgos
The island's capital, Jora (Chora) Amorgós, is located on a hill above the port called Katapola (Catapola). Jora Amorgosit is the harmonious mix of narrow and steep alleys, windmills, whitewashed cycladic houses, turrets and remains of a beautiful Venetian castle from the 16th century. XIII. In a splendid Venetian manor house there is a small but very interesting archaeological museum. On a steep rock, 300 m above sea level, one of the island's greatest attractions, the Josoviotisa monastery, has been excavated and embedded in the rock itself.

The town of Egiali, the second port of the island, is best reached by small boats that leave from Katapola, since the road is more uncomfortable and the boat ride is a real pleasure. Another attraction is the visit of the abandoned cycladic villages of Potamos, Langada, Zolaria in the Terlaki and Rijti region. It is, without a doubt, the most beautiful and picturesque area of the island. Visit the villages of Kastri, Vruchi and Kamari. One of the meeting points is the Frou-Frou Café. The disco-bars are Que, Ble Café and Delar in Jora. In Katapola, the Epicrison and "Le Grand Blue".

The beaches of Amorgos
The outstanding beaches are those of Katapola (the only one accessible by land), those of Aguia Ana, Paradisia, Arcesine, Calotarisa and Faros, all accessible thanks to the boats that make these routes continuously. Excursions can be made to lonely beaches or lonely islands, highlighting Anidro, Kinuro and Nicuria.

How to get to Amorgos
It has two ports, Katapola and Aegiali (Eyiali). It can be reached by ferry from Piraeus (not daily) or from Naxos.
