The Wisconsin Peninsula Door, which juts out into Lake Michigan, is home to some very interesting lighthouses. One of the headliners of the lake's waterfront is Cana Island Lighthouse. This well-preserved 89-foot tower sits on a nine-acre island, with grandiose views of the surrounding lake. The well-preserved house of the lighthouse keeper is located nearby. Visitors can climb 97 steps of stairs to reach a light that was once powered by oil supplied from a local storage container. One of the best features of the top of the lighthouse tower is the outdoor deck, which offers a bird's eye view of the landscapes of the surrounding Great Lakes.

There are also picturesque lighthouses and small nineteenth-century villages in the area, in addition to the five hundred kilometers of coastline. Visitors can enjoy open-air theater, live music, and stunning views wherever they look. For travelers looking to get away from it all, the outlying islands are accessible by boat. People looking for glamor and luxury can enjoy fine dining and luxury resort hotels. Quirky hotels, modern hostels, and historic inns offer their apartments to travelers from all over the world. In spring, many visitors head to Door County to admire the cherry blossoms, but there is plenty to do at any other time of the year.
