Fraser Island, off the east coast of Australia, is the largest sand island in the world. They are no less than 120 km long by 20 km wide. Of these 1,660 km2, a large part belongs to the Fraser Island Great Sandy National Park. Fraser Island named by the Aborigines K'gari (which means "paradise" for obvious reasons) has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992.
