The Road Tianmen Mountain, also known as Heaven's Gate, is a highway located within the Tianmen Mountain National Park, in the Hunan province, northwest of China. Construction began on this impressive piece of engineering in 1998 and took 8 years to see the light of day.

The roads are especially narrow and have a total of 99 curves from the start to the top. The road is in perfect condition since it is built for tourist use, going up from the foot of the mountain to the top, where the well-known Tianmen cave or gate of heaven is located. It takes about 20 minutes to get to the top. The walk, full of hairpin bends along vertical cliffs, is not recommended for those suffering from vertigo.

If you don't have a car, there are tour buses that take tourists from the cable car station along these 99 curves to the top of the mountain. The bus does not stop on the way, so taking photos is not possible if you get on this means of transport.

Although it is a delight to climb the mountain by road, the best way to take impressive photos of the curves of the road is from the cable car.
