The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is located in Florida, United States, spanning Tampa Bay, and is one of the longest bridges in the world. The construction of this bridge boosted the social and commercial relations of the State of Florida.
The length of this structure is about 6.6 kilometers, which makes it one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the entire planet. The bridge is cable-stayed in its main span.

Some 2,600 precast concrete elements were used for the construction of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
The road that crosses the bridge has two lanes for each direction of traffic. The bridge is specially designed and built to be able to withstand gusts of wind of more than 400 kilometers per hour and to be able to withstand the impact of an 87,000 ton ship traveling at a speed of 10 knots.

The construction works began in 1982 and ended 5 years later, being put into service in February 1987. This bridge was an important step for the social and commercial relations of the State of Florida.
