San Juan National Forest on the western state of Colorado, USA. The forest area is 1,878,846 acres (7603.42 km²). It borders the Ancompagre National Forest to the north and the Rio Grande National Forest to the east.

The territory of the San Juan National Forest covers parts of the districts of Archuleta, Conejos, Dolores, Hinsdale, La Plata, Mineral, Montezuma, Rio Grande, San Miguel and San Juan. It is Colorado's largest national forest.
The southern part of the San Juan mountain range is located in the national forest. The mountains are lower in height than in Ankompagra, but more difficult to access. The main part is made up of granite and shale rocks.
The National Forest was founded on June 3, 1905 by the decision of President Theodore Roosevelt.
To the east of the national forest lies the American continental divide, beyond which the Rio Grande National Forest begins.

The headquarters of the San Juan National Forest Administration is located in Durango. Forestry offices are located in Bayfield, Dolores and Pagosa Springs.
Prehistoric settlers first appeared here about 8000 years ago. Most of the artifacts found in the forest, however, date back to 2000-700 years ago. The Chimney Rock archaeological site was inscribed in the list of national monuments in 2012 by the decision of President Barack Obama.
