Eilean Donan Castle is perhaps the most iconic castle in Scotland and for moviegoers like me it is associated with the movie The Immortals or "Skyfall" the family home of James Bond, Agent 007. We have all seen thousands of times the silhouette of this castle. The only downside is that you can't photograph the inside, so you definitely have to go inside to see it.

Eilean Donan Castle is located on the island of the same name in Loch Duich near the town of Dornie (Scotland). Its name is due to a Celtic saint who died in the s. VII, DonnĂ¡n de Eigg, who is said to have founded a church on the island, although there are no remains of it.

Legend has it that Robert de Bruce took refuge in the Eilean Donan Castle on his escape in 1306 from the English troops of Eduardo I. In the s. XIV the MacRae clan would join the MacKenzie clan, becoming its wardens from 1511 and its residence to this day. During this time the outer wall was reduced and defenses were added on the east side and new rooms were built between this century and the beginning of the s. XVII.
