Canterbury

Canterbury is a resort of contrasts, quaint and lovely. On the one hand, it is home to Mt Hutt, the most commercialized and popular ski area in New Zealand (365 hectares, 4m of snow on average each season). On the other side is New Zealand Clubfields, a developing area that many call the heart and soul of ski New Zealand. A difficult access road leads here, you will have to walk to very simple apartments, drag lifts. And very, very few skiers.

“The relaxed, fun atmosphere and unpiscored mountainous landscape make Clubfields my favorite skiing destination in New Zealand,” says British ski photographer Camilla Stoddart, who is based in New Zealand. She recommends Broken River for family skiing and Temple Basin "for skiing the steepest and most difficult ski slopes in New Zealand."
