Wailua Falls is located on one of the oldest islands in Hawaii - Kauai, formed over six million years ago. The waterfall got its name in honor of the river on which it is located. The water slope is represented by two main streams of 24 meters height.

According to some ancient legends, the ancient warriors representing the Hawaiian tribe Ali'i, as proof of their masculinity and willingness to defend their fellow tribesmen, jumped from the platform between the two streams of the Wailua Falls.
You can get to the place of the fall of the waterfall only on foot, going down to it along a slippery and steep path, which carries a danger to the health and life of everyone who risks making an extreme descent along it.

Some of the tourists who repeatedly visit this picturesque place have made repeated attempts to improve the descent, making it more comfortable and safe. They pulled ropes along the path, designed to protect travelers from injuries and falls. But local officials do not like such improvisations and they constantly get rid of rope fences so that they do not spoil the original view and the beautiful panorama of the waterfall.

The Wailua River, formed as a result of the confluence of the Northern and Southern branches, originates near a settlement called Hanamaulu and flows towards the east of Kauai Island, where it forms the famous Wailua Falls. Two kilometers after the place of its fall, the Southern branch merges with the Northern one.

Not far from the gushing jets of Wailua, the waters of the "Secret Waterfall", the Opaeka drain, run down. Along the banks of the Wailua river phenomenon, many bird shelters can be seen, and on one of the slopes is the Hawaiian village of Halokita, where ancient traditions of ancestors are still honored. A specially equipped jumping pool is located near the waterfall.
