The Concepción volcano is connected by a narrow isthmus with the Maderas volcano. Concepción is also the second largest volcano in Nicaragua.

It was originally called Omeyatecigua, but at the time of the conquest in the 16th century, the Franciscan friars baptized it that way after the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.
The Concepción is close to being a perfect cone; It is the largest volcano in Ometepe, with a height of 1610 meters above sea level. For many years the volcano was quiet, but from 1883 it began a series of spaced eruptions, with the projection of ash and blast.
