History
Golden Nugget was built in 1946, making it one of the oldest casinos in the city. Jackie Gogan once owned a hotel stake in his many downtown estates. Steve Wynn bought a stake in Nugget, which he increased, so that in 1973 he became the majority shareholder and the youngest owner of a casino in Las Vegas. In 1977, he opened the hotel's first tower and the resort received the first four diamond ratings from the Mobil Travel Guide. This became the basis for Wynne to gain a prominent place in the casino industry. The hotel's second tower opened in 1984 along with an exhibition hall, and the third tower opened in 1989. In 2000 Golden Nugget (and all other Mirage Resorts properties ) were soldMGM. Grand, Inc. (later named MGM Mirage).

While the Golden Nugget was profitable, it was not part of the corporation's expansion master plan, which focused on consolidating a long stretch of the Strip by acquiring the Mandalay Resort Group, building a city center and starting construction in Macau. Fremont Street gaming revenue peaked in fiscal 1993. Golden Nugget was sold in 2003 for $ 215 million to Poster Financial Group, owned by Timothy Poster and Thomas Breitling. February 4, 2005, in Houston, Texas, Landry's, Inc has announced its intention to acquire the property and the Golden Nugget A to Laughlin. The sale ended on September 27, 2005.
