Of course, this attraction cannot be called a forest in the literal sense of the word, since modern Sherwood is still considered a park area. Quite another matter is the historic Sherwood Forest, where the noble robber Robin Hood was hiding.
Sherwood Forest is visited not only by travelers, but also by locals - Englishmen from all over the country. After all, perhaps everyone knows the legend of Robin Hood, and, of course, everyone wants to visit the "headquarters" of the famous robber.

The huge national reserve was opened fifty years ago and during this time has become very popular with tourists. It is worth noting that not only travelers come here, but also locals - Englishmen from all over the country. According to legend, the "office" of Robin Hood was in a huge oak tree. This giant tree is a real long-liver. According to various sources, he is now from 800 to 1000 years old. Sometimes it is also called Major Oak due to the fact that in 1790 Major Rook Heyman mentioned this tree in his book on the oaks of Sherwood Forest.
The locals consider the long-lived oak to be a real English miracle.

But there are other interesting ancient monuments in Sherwood Forest. For example, an acoustic anomaly was discovered at the edge of a forest eight years ago. Even if you say a word very quietly, you will be heard hundreds of meters away. Scientists discovered three large stones nearby, near which, presumably, the Vikings organized gatherings. These stones may have once served as the border between the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of Mercia and Northumbria. Interestingly, this place is marked on a map from 1609 and is called Thynghowe. It is believed that this is where Robin Hood and other robbers exhibited their sentries. In case of danger, the sentries instantly notified their comrades, who could be a hundred meters away, but thanks to the excellent acoustics, they heard everything and at one moment they disappeared.

The Robin Hood Festival is held annually in Sherwood Forest during the summer. This family holiday, which lasts for several days, is the main attraction for most tourists. It hosts a falcon show, theater troupes show performances, circus shows and much more.
