Bieszczady National Park is the third largest national park in Poland. It was created in 1973 and occupies an area of 292.02 square kilometers, covering the highest areas of the Polish part of the Bieszczady Mountains culminating in Mount Tarnica (1,346 m). In 1992, the Park and its surroundings became part of the UNESCO Reserve called the Eastern Carpathian Biosphere Reserve.

The most characteristic of the Bieszczady National Park are the rounded peaks, abundant in grass, called połonina (mountain meadows). Here many of the particular species of plants grow and live, among others, the deer, the bison, the lynx, the wild cat, the wolf, the bear and some 150 species of birds, among them the eagle.
