The history of their creation is simple and unpretentious. Butchart is an entrepreneur who founded a cement company in the 1900s. After the limestone ran out in the quarry, Jenny decided to plant a garden here. The entrepreneur did not refuse his beloved woman and made her dream come true.
The Japanese Garden was first laid in 1908. Later, the Sunken Garden began to be created on the site of the quarry, which was completed in 1921. However, Butcharts did not stop there and already in 1929 laid the Rosary, which today numbers more than 500 types of wonderful roses. Robert himself was quite seriously interested in ornithology and settled here a significant number of ornamental birds from all over the world. For city residents, the gardens have become a favorite place for walking.

Jenny's death hit the entrepreneur hard and the garden was abandoned. Only later was he revived by the Butcharts' grandson, Ian Ross with his wife Annie. For the revival of the garden and its further improvement, they had to make an entrance fee. They later opened a popular café and seed shop here.
Today the Butchart Gardens are visited by over 1 million people a year. Many tourists come here specifically to enjoy this fascinating spectacle. I must say that no one considers them eccentric. It's so beautiful here that you can't even believe in the reality of the environment. It seems that you are in a wonderful fairy tale created by good, kind people.

They are located in Canada, on Vancouver Island, halfway between the Island's airport and Victoria, the most populated city on the Island.
