Mirissa is a small town and beach resort area in the south of Sri Lanka on the shores of the Indian Ocean (Mirissa on the map of Sri Lanka). Mirissa was formed at first as a purely tourist resort area, and only then a modest urban infrastructure appeared here. There are almost no houses of local residents here, everything is focused only on tourism. In addition to tourism, the village lives on fishing, most of which, again, is geared towards resort guests.

The first tourist hotel appeared here in 1980, and the place turned out to be so successful that it began to develop rapidly in the 90s, and today it has become one of the most attractive beach resorts in the south. People come here for excellent beaches, quiet rest, solitude and idleness. If you compare Mirissa with the other two most popular resorts in the south - Unawoutnaya and Hikkaduwa, then it is much quieter here. Compared to them, Mirissa is a real wilderness, but this is the main "feature" of the resort.

When is the season. When is the best time to go.
As in any near-equatorial country, it is not cold in Sri Lanka, especially on the coast. The average annual temperature in Mirissa is about 28 degrees, and the tourist season depends entirely on the rainy season, which begins in April and lasts until May. The most favorable for recreation here, it seems to me, will be January, February and March.
Mirissa in summer
Mirissa in the summer months (June, July and August) will delight you with a stable temperature: 30 degrees during the day and about 26 at night and the absence of a bright sun, and even a strong wind. The water in the ocean is very warm all summer, 27-28 degrees, but the problem is humidity, stormy winds and frequent rains. If in June and July they will not cause much discomfort, then in August you may simply be flooded - this is the rainiest and windiest month in Mirissa according to recent years.

Mirissa in autumn
The autumn months in Mirissa are not much different from August: it rains half the days (especially in September and November), on the other days it is cloudy, but warm - about 30 degrees. Nevertheless, already the end of November is considered the beginning of the tourist season, which peaks during the winter months.

Mirissa in winter
All winter months in Mirissa are consistently hot: 32 degrees, the ocean - 28, the sun shines almost every day. Even if it rains, it is short and refreshing, most often at night. January is considered the sunniest month of this resort, but it is no less warm and great to relax here in February, March and even April.

Mirissa in the spring
In March-April, the air temperature reaches its peak, as does the water temperature - almost 30 degrees. The rains are short, but already in late April and early May, the clouds are thickening, and in Mirissa the rainy season begins, fraught with floods.
How to get to Mirissa
Mirissa is located 170 kilometers from Colombo International Airport, and 150 kilometers from Colombo (Mirissa on the map of Sri Lanka). The nearest major transport hub is the city of Galle, and if you plan to get here by public transport, then you should aim to go exactly to Galle and make a transfer there.
