Located in the Sahara desert, in an area belonging to Algeria, Tassili n'Ajjer is a plateau of about 72,000 square kilometers declared a National Park, World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve.

There are many tourist attractions in the region, although most visitors come to see one of the largest collections of rock art in the world.
How it was formed
Although it seems incredible, the region was crossed by mighty rivers for millions of years, specifically since the Pleistocene.

They were in charge of watering the lakes that today make up the famous dunes of the Sahara.
About 10,000 years ago, the transformation began little by little into an increasingly desert landscape.
Its higher altitude above the level of the Sahara, has allowed the rivers to continue flowing between the mountain formations.

They slowly penetrated the landscape, with the help of the action of the wind during the driest periods, giving rise to what is now known as "stone forest".
The easy-to-mold sandstone rock of which the Tassili N'Ajjer Plateau is composed has given rise to the most varied and curious forms, being able to see more than 300 rocky arches among the landscape.

What to see in Tassili n'Ajjer
The great attraction of this impressive natural site are the cave paintings, not in vain they have remained engraved in the stone for millennia.
Through them you can learn about the geological history of the place, as well as the life of its inhabitants.
