A golden cross at the top of the mountain annually attracts thousands of enthusiastic climbers. Although Zugspitze is very tempting, any traveler must be well trained and physically prepared to go there. It is not a hiking trip. The first person to conquer the Zugspitze summit was Joseph Naus. Together with his assistant Maier and his mountain guide Deutschl, he reached the top on August 27, 1820.

Fortunately, today there are much easier ways to reach the top of the Zugspitze: three cable cars lift all its visitors with minimal effort. The first funicular up the Zugspitze mountain was opened in 1926 and is still in operation.
From the top of the Zugspitze some really impressive views open up. If you are lucky enough to reach the peak on a clear day, you can see the territories of four countries. Furthermore, as there are no other mountains of similar height nearby, the Zugspitze offers spectacular views in all directions.
