That the Belgian Ardennes Region would be a place from which we would return hooked, we knew before starting our tour of Belgium.

Our passion for history, but above all for nature, already made us foresee that the Belgian region of Wallonia offers many possibilities to slow travelers like us, where every detail, every landscape or every story captivates.
Ardennes Regional Nature Park
With its 117,200 hectares of surface area, the Ardennes Regional Nature Park, located in the north of the Ardennes departments, groups together five landscape units: the Ardennes massif, the Givet point, the Rocroi plateau, the Sormonne valley and the Ardennes Thiérache. In this green territory there are forests, woods, dry grass, peat bogs, rocky escarpments and watercourses. For this reason, the Parc d'Ardennes lends itself perfectly to outdoor leisure activities: hiking, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, fishing and canoeing. Walkers and hikers will have a great time crossing the many marked trails or the magnificent Trans-Ardennes Greenway. Touring this region of the Ardennes means enjoying the views of the loops of the Meuse and Semoy, discovering their traditions and cultures, savoring local products and contemplating their architectural heritage, made up of fortified churches, castles and citadels.

Ardennes Mountain System
The Ardennes mountain range is the heart of the Champagne-Ardenne French natural region. It is located in the southeast of the Belgian region of Wallonia, as well as the Luxembourg region of Essling and the French department of the Ardennes. It also extends into Germany through the Eifel highlands. Its highest point, Signal de Botrange, is in Belgium at 694m. Also, this massif is the western part of the Rhine Slate Mountains. The Rhine Slate Mountains as a natural landscape of Central and Western Europe are separated from the Rhine by two parts. For the most part, the Ardennes is a vast wooded area, but desert mountainous landscapes predominate in the east and south.

The Ardennes is a true paradise for nature lovers, thanks to its rich and varied fauna and flora. The Massif of Ardennes and the natural areas surrounding it offer their visitors slopes covered with thick forests. The heritage of the Ardennes Region is not limited to the bounty of nature: the villages and towns located here are also of interest to tourists. In the picturesque villages along the banks of the rivers, guests of the region can taste the famous smoked salmon, pate and Trappist beer that make this region world famous.
