The Sacred Valley of the Incas (Urubamba Valley) in Peru is a huge open-air archaeological museum. On the territory of the national park there are several ancient Inca settlements and structures that keep the secrets of the centuries-old history of the Great Empire of Tahuantisuya. Stone temples, agricultural terraces, fortress walls and towers, residential and outbuildings have been preserved in the cities. Many Inca architectural creations fell into ruin during the era of colonization, but some structures are in perfect condition.

The ancient settlements are located in the fertile valley of the Urubamba River, surrounded by the Peruvian Andes. Acquaintance with the culture of the Incas should begin in the city of Cusco, from where excursions to the main attractions start - Machu Picchu, Kenko, Ollantaytambo, Sacsayhuaman, Moray and other archaeological complexes. The routes pass through authentic residential villages, next to which unique evidence of a bygone era has been kept for centuries.

How to get there
Any route through the Sacred Valley of the Incas begins in Cusco, where you can fly from Lima by plane or by bus (reliable carriers are Oltursa and Cruz Del Sur). From Cusco to the main attractions, trains run by companies Peru Rail and Inca Rail, the cost of tickets for which depends on the class of cars. Backpackers trains run from Oyantaytambo to Machu Picchu.

There are alternative options - order a sightseeing tour (transport or walking) with a visit to the archaeological sites of interest or travel by local buses, minibuses or taxis (collectively). Taxis can be ordered on the spot or called through the Gabify or Taxidatum app.
