It is interesting
Hachijo-Jima is the most remote island in the Izu archipelago.
The Kuroshio Current keeps the water warm all year round off the coast of the island.
Stunning volcanic landscape
Hachijo-Jima Island consists of two stratovolcanoes that last erupted in 1606. It is famous for its black volcanic sand beaches. The vegetation here is beautiful and lush - also thanks to the fertile volcanic soils.
The island is located 287 km from Tokyo and, due to its remoteness, was used as a penal colony until the 1900s. Criminals and political dissidents were brought here.

Warm ocean current
Surrounded by the waters of the warm Kuroshio Current, Hachijo-Jima Island is a great place for those who don't like the cold. Thanks to its mild climate and mesmerizing beauty, it became popular with tourists as early as the 1960s: Tokyo residents came here for a romantic weekend or honeymoon.

Hot springs for every taste
There are many geothermal springs in the southwestern part of the island. Try different types of baths, including foot baths, and take a dip in the hot outdoor pools.
Often onsen are located on the coast, so they offer views of the ocean. Guests of the island are offered a special package of services - an unlimited bus pass and free access to some hot springs for two days.
