Lanzarote is one of the most amazing islands of the Canary archipelago. What makes it interesting? This is an island of volcanoes, which was even called the “Moon on Earth”. Huge areas of solidified lava, dormant craters, and other evidence of the island's volcanic past make up its unique landscape. And at the top of the list of amazing creations of the nature of the Canary Islands is the Cueva de Los Verdes cave. This is one of the most extensive caves of volcanic origin in the world. Until 1970, it was considered the longest volcanic tunnel.

Imagine that such caves are formed almost instantly. Fiery rivers of lava flowing along the earth's surface during volcanic eruptions gradually harden and form a crust. Under this crust remains a channel, which is called a lava tube. For some time, fiery liquid magma flows through it. When the tube becomes empty and cools, it turns into a system of volcanic caves.

Cueva de Los Verdes Cave appeared due to the eruption of the Corona volcano about four thousand years ago. Then giant lava flows tried to break through to the sea coast. This winding underground gallery stretches for 6100 meters and has a bizarre shape. Huge halls with 15-meter vaults flow into a narrow and winding tunnel. The upper hall is quite spacious, with excellent natural acoustics. Concerts with the participation of famous world stars are held here. The acoustics of the cave are really very unusual due to the porous walls of the lava, which allow you to hear sounds devoid of resonance.

Another attraction is located at the bottom of the cave. This is the underground salt lake Jameos del Agua. The literal translation of the name means "a lake in a collapsed cave." The lake is fed by the salt water of the Atlantic Ocean. The blind albino crab lives here - a rare blind creature that lives in the deep bowels of the earth.
The Cueva de Los Verdes Cave became accessible to tourists in 1964. Currently, it is not fully open - only about one or two kilometers from the total length of the tunnel. The air temperature is acceptable for visiting: during the year it is +19°C. Multi-colored lights and strange mysterious but pleasant music coming from the walls make the walk through the cave fabulous. But do not think that this walk is easy. Traveling through a lava tube is not an easy task: winding corridors force travelers to bend low to pass under stalactites, and sometimes they have to overcome rather high rocky rapids. Part of the cave space is below sea level, and the height difference in the cave is more than two hundred meters.

But still, this miracle of nature is worth seeing. You will love the bubbles of gas released from the cooled lava, which paint fantastic patterns on the walls of the cave. The mysterious atmosphere, lighting effects, the feeling of a mythical labyrinth - all this is not only a pleasure for adventure lovers, but also very popular with those who came here for the first time.
