Fort de Soto is a huge park in Florida with miles and miles of playgrounds and magnificent beaches. They consist of several interconnected islands located at the southernmost tip of St. Peter's Beach and St. Petersburg. The islands once served as a fortress, hence their name. There are still mortars and cannons, which we can see, in some of the fortifications.

Visitors can visit them and imagine what life was like more than a hundred years ago. Nowadays, Fort de Soto is an area of tourism and fun, where people come mainly to enjoy its beaches, sunbathe, swim, walk, fish and go on excursions throughout the area. With so many miles to admire, we have all day to keep busy, and indeed it will take more to see it all.
As said, Fort de Soto is most popularly known for its beaches. In fact, it was named the best beach in North America in 2005 by a prestigious beach magazine. The entire perimeter of the island is lined with beaches with very white sand.

There are picnic areas with many facilities and services for tourists, as well as a large number of car parks to leave your car. There are also areas to leave the car and go to the neighboring beaches on foot, to be able to see all of nature and enjoy it in all its fullness.
In some of the beaches we can find supermarkets where we can buy food, drinks and other things that can come in handy at the moment. The beaches are very clean, very white and free of rocks and stones. The waters are generally calm and invite you to swim throughout the day.
There are two fishing jetties in separate parts of the park. In both places there are shops where you can buy everything you need to be able to fish, apart from being able to eat and drink something.

On the beaches there is also the opportunity to rent a kayak or canoe for special routes designed for it. We can observe and enjoy the wildlife on both sides of the road from our boat. Another of the activities that are carried out regularly are the excursions along the routes prepared for it. There is a route of more than eleven kilometers that crosses the park from side to side, and where we can go on foot or by bicycle, and admire the flora and fauna of this part of Florida.
In terms of accommodation, the most advisable thing is to camp, since there are several options with all the services and facilities for it. There are several and they have everything we need to be as comfortable as possible, and also surrounded by a beautiful natural environment.
