Located on the southwestern coast of Puerto Rico, Guánica is a city where life is closely linked to the sea. Many islanders have summer houses in the area, and it is one of the few places where it is common to see boats – houses. The public Caña Gorda Beach is a favorite among local families and visitors for its emerald waters and the extensive white corals that we can see on the coastline.

One of the things that many people do here is to go on excursions along the beach to discover coves. You can be completely alone, if you don't want to share the sand and the waters with others.

The sea that we have at Caña Gorda beach is dotted with a few small islets, many of them nameless and uninhabited, except for some rare species of beaches and birds. Notable among these tiny islands is Gilligan's Island, which is a dream for any scuba diver or snorkeller, as it is surrounded by crystal clear shallow waters with extensive marine life.
Caña Gorda Beach is especially visited by people from Puerto Rico itself in summer, and apart from the magnificent beach and the excursions along the coast, Caña Gorda offers other pleasures, such as visiting the Guánica forest reserve, where we can observe a great variety of birds of different types.

In any case, and as has been mentioned before, the activity most appreciated by beach lovers is to explore the small bays that cover the area. In these bays with exclusive beaches, we can have the feeling of total freedom, disconnecting from all civilization. On some occasions, you may be lucky enough to find some kind of unusual plant or bird during your exploration.
To eat, we have the San Jacinto, which is on the beachfront and where we can find various types of fish and other typical dishes. It is a good occasion to eat quietly looking at the sea and breathing in the sea breeze. We can find it on Highway 333, south of the city. To sleep we have several places along the same road and near the Caña Gorda beach, such as the Copamarina or Mimí's guest house.
