Fraueninsel Island (Frauenchiemsee) on Lake Chiemsee, where no more than 300 residents live permanently, can be bypassed in 40 minutes. However, it is worth spending at least half a day on it to feel the local rhythm of life. The center of attraction here is the Frauenwörth or Kloster Frauenchiemsee Benedictine convent. It was founded in 782 by Tassilo III, Duke of Bavaria. Subsequently, the buildings of the monastery were repeatedly rebuilt.

First of all, people who dream of becoming parents rush to the Frauenwerth Monastery: it is believed that the patroness of the monastery, Saint Irmengard, helps in this. There is also "evidence": a whole wall hung with photographs of babies born after their parents' visit to the monastery. Today, about 50 nuns live in the monastery, founded in the 8th century. Like centuries ago, they prepare marzipan and Chiemseer Klosterlikör herbal liquor, and deliver vegetables and fruits from their garden to restaurants on the Fraueninsel Island, even the druids arranged ritual dances. You should not miss the fish restaurants, where they cook simply, but very soundly and tasty!
