Mount Fuji is located a couple of hours southwest of Tokyo, and at its foot is the Fujigoko area, or the Five Lakes of Fuji. These lakes have accumulated near the northern slope of the volcano. On the largest of them, Lake Yamanaka, you can meet many swans - both live and artificial.

Lake Yamanaka is located in the village of Yamanakako, where it is called "Swan Lake". Several activities are available to guests including boating, fishing, dining, and camping, and it is also a great place for bird watchers. Many whooper swans live here, and local entrepreneurs have replenished their natural population with swan-shaped boats and a large ferry with a swan neck and a head that looks like a real bird.

The view of Fuji from the lake is amazing, especially from the deck of the ferry or from one of the swan-shaped boats. However, be prepared for the fact that real swans can follow you everywhere, begging for a handout. It is said that they may try to get to know you better if you ignore them. However, what could be more interesting than being pecked to death in Fujiyama's shadow?
