Dubrovnik, the "pearl of the Adriatic", is perhaps the most beautiful city on the Croatian coast. It was founded in the first half of the 7th century by a group of refugees from Epidaurus and named Laus. Soon the settlement merged with the neighboring Slavic town of Dubrava, becoming the city, and then the center of the powerful Republic of Dubrovnik.

How to get there

Transport
Dubrovnik is rightly called the "Pearl of the Adriatic". This city with a population of 43-44 thousand people is located in the south of Dalmatia on the Adriatic coast, and is a UNESCO site.
Dubrovnik is an ancient city with a rich history, and millions of tourists come here every year to admire the azure sea and visit the Old Town with its sights. In this regard, transport links are highly developed in Dubrovnik - the city is the largest port in southern Croatia and has an international airport. There is no train service in Dubrovnik.
Dubrovnik Airport is located 20 km south of the city, in the village of Cilipi. The airport is small in size and receives local flights from Zagreb, Pula, Zadar, Split, as well as international flights from the UK, Germany, Italy, and other countries. Charters from S7 and Transaero airlines fly from Russia to Dubrovnik.
Dubrovnik is connected to the airport by a narrow serpentine road, and you can get to the city either by taxi or by bus. A taxi can cost around 200 kunas (€26-€27). The bus is much cheaper, but follows a rare schedule.

The seaport of Dubrovnik accepts both small and large vessels. The city is connected by sea with almost all major cities and islands of Croatia: Split, Rijeka, Mljet island, Elafiti Islands, etc.
Road communication between Dubrovnik and all cities within the country is carried out along the Jadran Way (Adriatic Highway). This highway crosses the entire coast of the country, as well as Montenegro.
Transport within the city mainly consists of taxis and buses. The average cost of a taxi: for landing - 25 kunas (3 euros), then 1 km - 8 kunas (1 euro) and 1 hour of waiting - 90 kunas (12 euros). A large taxi rank is located next to the Kerum Shopping Centre.
Locals prefer buses. The Old Town can be reached by buses No. 6 (from the Zagreb Hotel) and No. 4 (from the Kommodor Hotel). A pre-purchased ticket costs 8 kunas, and the driver costs 10 kunas. Buses run every 10-20 minutes.
Comfortable intercity buses also follow from the bus station. The Dubrovnik bus station is located behind the boat harbour, between the Tommy supermarket and the Minceta shopping centre.

The most amazing mode of transport in Dubrovnik is the metro (water). The city has a tunnel, which in 2003, after a small cosmetic repair, began to be used as a subway with 4 stops.
