The museum was founded in 1991 as the Evergreen Museum by Captain Michael Smith, for whom the museum was a dream come true. Volunteers, many of whom are former pilots, are a key moment in the history of the creation of the institution. Evergreen also offers a range of presentation films on the development and use of aircraft, as well as demonstrations of various avionics principles. One of the museum's most famous exhibits is the Hughes H-4 Hercules (also known as the Spruce Goose), a transport wooden flying boat developed by the American company Hughes Aircraft.
