In Baltimore, Maryland's Old Town area, there is a largely deserted outdoor pedestrian retail mall called the Old Town Mall or Oldtown Mall. There are 64 stores in the mall, most of which are shuttered. Since the area's founding 200 years ago, there have been several periods of growth and collapse, and there are presently efforts by local developers to rejuvenate the mall.

When the City of Baltimore constructed the Bel Air Market in 1818, Old Town and Gay Street began to develop as a shopping district. Bel Air, the sixth market to be built, was intended to be a temporary farmers market to accommodate the expanding commercial operations in the neighborhood.
