Florida's Cutler Bay (formerly Cutler Ridge) is home to the Southland Mall, formerly known as Cutler Ridge Mall. As an expansion of the Cutler Ridge Shopping Center, which had first opened in 1960, it debuted in 1978. (shortly after its "grand reopening", Cutler Ridge Mall moniker was subsequently applied to the entire shopping center complex). In the early to mid-1980s, the mall was expanded with further extensions.

When the first retail complex was built, it included Richard's, which subsequently changed its name to Burdines, and Food Fair (now Pantry Pride) as its main tenants. It was enlarged in 1978 to become a complete mall, with Lord & Taylor opening in 1982, JCPenney opening in 1982, and Jordan Marsh opening in 1978. Following its closure in 1990, Mervyns opened its doors in 1991. A Phar Mor took the name Pantry Pride.
