In Fort Wayne, Indiana, there was a covered shopping center called Southtown Mall. It was founded in 1969 but shut down in 2003 as a result of decreased traffic. J. C. Penney, Montgomery Ward (later Kohl's), Wolf & Dessauer (after L. S. Ayres), Sears, and Service Merchandise were previously considered anchor stores. The mall was destroyed to make room for a Walmart and Menards.
