A partnership between Cape Girardeau-based Drury Development Corp. and St. Louis-based May Centers, Inc., creators of the Drury Hotel Chain, erected the mall in 1981. Original tenants included Hallmark Cards, Foot Locker, Kay-Bee Toys, Claire's, Zales Jewelry, GNC, Waldenbooks, and Lerner New York. It included Famous-Barr (later Macy's) and JCPenney as its flagship stores. As a third anchor, an 80,000-square-foot (7,400 m2) Venture was added in 1984. In 1993, Westfield Group acquired the shopping center from CenterMark, and in 1998, it changed its name to Westfield Shoppingtown West Park.
