The Indio Grand Marketplace is now located where the Indio Fashion Mall once stood in Indio, California. On February 24, 1975, Indio Fashion Mall began operations. The mall, which included 40 additional mall stores, was centered around a 60,000-square-foot (5,600 m2) Harris Company department store (later renamed Harris Gottschalks in 1999) and a Sears. On a 17-acre (6.9-hectare) plot, the mall contained 20,000 square meters (20,000 sq ft) of storage space.
