On September 20, 2006, work on the Philadelphia Premium Outlets officially started with the intention of giving Montgomery County residents more shopping alternatives, as well as increasing local tax income and employment opportunities. On November 8, 2007, the Philadelphia Premium Outlets launched its 120 retailers to a large throng at 9 a.m. After an April 2008 expansion, there were 150 shops in total.
2017 marked the center's tenth anniversary. Over the years, it has welcomed several new shops while keeping more than half of the original 120 who were operating there on opening day in 2007.
