On this page, you will find a detailed description of Lake Tamblingan and its photo. You will find out why this attraction is interesting and why it is worth visiting. I will give you some tips on how best to get to the lake from different areas of the island, and when is the best time to come to see Tamblingan in all its glory.
DESCRIPTION OF THE LAKE
Lake Tamblingan is located in the north of Bali, on the slope of Mount Les u ng, in an ancient volcanic caldera. It is formed by the craters of several extinct volcanoes. There is another lake near Tamblingan, Buyan (Danau Buyan). Until the 19th century, they were one, but as a result of an earthquake, an embankment was formed that separated the lakes. A little further away is another lake - Bratan (Danau Beratan). Together with Lake Batur (Danau Batur) located in the northwest, they are the main source of fresh water on the island.
Lake Tamblingan is located on a mountain plateau, at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level. This is about 3 meters higher than the neighboring lake Buyan. The maximum length of the Tamblingan is 2 km, the width is 1.1 km, and the area is 1.6 km². With a relatively small area, the depth of the lake can reach 90 meters. It is forbidden to sail on modern motor boats here. Only small local canoes with oars called Perahu are launched into the water. Many Balinese from neighboring villages are engaged in fishing on the lake.

The water level in Tamblingan varies with the season. When it rains, it floods the entire coast, including several temples located nearby. Recently, there has been more and more water in the lake, and houses and farms near the shore are suffering. People had to move to higher slopes. The Indonesian authorities are conducting research and trying to prevent this phenomenon. Most likely, the floods are associated with intensive agricultural exploitation of the slopes, due to which more rainwater flows into the lake.
The climate in this area is different from the rest of Bali. Tamblingan is located high in the mountains, so the average temperature here is about 18 degrees Celsius. It is often foggy, especially in the morning. Quite cold at night. Although during the day, when the sun is shining, it is hot.

The lake is surrounded by tropical forests, where casuarinas, pines, and cedars grow, as well as many species of orchids. Monkeys can be found here. They are not as tame as in Ubud, but quite accustomed to people. A great view of Tamblingan can be found from the observation deck on the hill of the village of Asah Gobleg, although several others can be found on the way to the lake. Most sites have small cafes where you can buy exotic fruits from local vendors.
Unlike its "neighbors", Lake Tamblingan is not very visited by tourists. This does not mean that it is not interesting here. Just go far. If you like quiet corners, and virgin nature, then this place is just for you. There are camping sites along the coast and camps for children are also organized here. In the forest, you can set up a small tent city for a youth company or put up a family tent. A trip to the lake and connoisseurs of ancient oriental culture will be appreciated. People also come here specifically to practice yoga. The atmosphere of the lake is perfect for this.
