One of the largest reservoirs in the US,
Lake Texoma is also the largest lake in the Tulsa District of the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and ranks 12th overall in size. About 726 miles (1,168 km) upstream from the river's mouth, between Bryan County, Oklahoma, and Grayson County, Texas, Denison Dam on the Red River creates Lake Texoma. It is situated where the Red and Washita River meet.

In 1944, the project was finished. Approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) northwest of Denison, Texas, and 15 miles (24 km) southwest of Durant, Oklahoma, are the locations of the dam. With around 6 million tourists a year, Lake Texoma is the most developed and well-liked lake in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, in the United States. In Oklahoma, there are more lakes than in Texas.
