The American suburb of Metairie, Louisiana, home to the Lakeside Shopping Center, sometimes known as Lakeside, is at 3301 Veterans Memorial Boulevard. The largest and busiest mall in Greater New Orleans debuted on March 24, 1960, as the city's first regional retail center. The 967,000 square foot (89,800 square meters) Lakeside Mall has four significant retail anchors: Dillard's, Macy's, JCPenney, and Zara. More than 120 shops and eateries are also present.

A 5-screen movie theater that was operated initially by Lakeside in a satellite complex next to Dillard's was eventually demolished for more satellite retail space in 2000 due to competition from newer stadium-style cinemas. A movie theater had never been run on the grounds of the smaller Clearview Mall since it opened in 1966. This mall is 2 miles (3 km) to the west on Veterans Memorial Boulevard. In 2001, that mall significantly increased the size of its food court and added 12 theater-style screens.
