In 1976, Pueblo Mall first opened. It was created by The Hahn Company, and its anchor stores at first included Montgomery Ward, The Denver Dry Goods Company, Joslins, and J. C. Penney. Downtown Pueblo had a previous business that was replaced by Joslins. In 1987, Denver Dry Goods closed its doors and sold its location to Mervyn's. Dillard's purchased the full chain of Joslin's stores in 1998. In 2001, Montgomery Ward closed its doors and changed its name to Sears, which moved into the Midtown Shopping Center.
