On the West Bank of the Mississippi River in the greater New Orleans area, Terrytown, Louisiana, is home to the large retail center known as Oakwood Center. The phrase "Oakwood Mall" is still used on certain signs and in some local speeches today. Geographically, it is in Terrytown, although the mailing address is in the nearby Louisiana city of Gretna. Old Navy, Dick's Sporting Goods, Shoe Dept. Encore, JCPenney, and Dillard's are the anchor retailers. One of the anchor stores, which was once Sears, is empty.

In order to capitalize on the expansion of West Bank development that followed the establishment of the Crescent City Connection, Oakwood Mall was built in 1966. D. H. Holmes was one of the old anchor shops. In 1992, a Dillard's shop took its place, and later, Marshalls.
