At the primary crossroads of Minneapolis, Minnesota's Uptown neighborhood, Hennepin Avenue and West Lake Street, is where Seven Points, an indoor retail center, opened its doors on February 15, 1984. Up until October 2020, the structure was known as Calhoun Square.

Local developer Ray Harris converted several historic structures, notably the Geanakoplos Building (1917), into an indoor mall with an atrium design in the early 1980s.
The "Dump Updale" movement was launched early on by community activists opposed to the project. "Up" stood for Uptown, and "Dale" was a reference to the Twin Cities suburban retail centers with names that finish in "Dale," such as Southdale Center and Ridgedale Center.
