Thingvellir National Park is one of the three national parks in Iceland. It is located in the southeast of the island state and is included in the route of the local Golden Ring. It is from this place that many travelers advise to start their acquaintance with the “land of ice”. There are several reasons: the unique landscape and the historical heritage of the protected area.

Icelanders will tell you that no place represents the history of their country and nation like this natural park. After all, it was here that the main events took place: a people's council (Althingi) was formed, a decision was made to introduce Christianity, and the independence of the state was proclaimed.

In 1928, an appropriate status was added to the respectful attitude - Thingvellir became a national park. Before that, there was no such practice in the country. In 2004, the valley of the same name was also appreciated by UNESCO. The natural landmark was included in the list of World Heritage Sites.
